Nominee Announcement For The 2019 Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards

Comedy doesn’t get the amount of attention it desires albeit it is one of the fastest-growing industries in Africa. However, the South African Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards (CCAs) wants to celebrate this amazing progress and the individuals behind this success. The main sponsor of the award is Savanna Premium Cider.
The unveiling of the nominees was on Wednesday, 10th of July at The Venue in Melrose Arch. Consequently, this year’s Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards nominees is the most exciting yet. This is because of its diversity, featuring the best comedians in the continent.
Changes to this year’s Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards
In this year’s Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards, voting for the Audience Choice category will be online against the previous mobile voting. Consequently, they are currently over 100,000 votes from 287 comedians across 70 countries. Thus, this shows that African comedy is a global product. You can cast your vote online at comicschoice.co.za. The closing date for voting is 31st August 2019.
However, this is not the only alteration to the Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards. The Headliner of the Year Award also replaces the Savanna Comic Of The Year Awards. The Chatz Connect Audience Choice Award is now open to Pan-African Comedians. Consequently, there is a change in the Terms and Conditions of the award.
The growth of the comedy industry
The theme of this year’s Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards is ‘Funny Money’. The comedy industry is huge. However, there are still lots of questions particularly ‘How big is it?’ From 30 to 40 comics in the past, there are now hundreds of comedians gigging in South Africa. The date of this year’s Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards is 7th September 2019. The venue will be The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg.
Other partners of the events are Kaya FM 95.9, Chatz Connect, Stageworks, Sound Stylists, and Channel24. The dress code is “glamorous with emphasis on designer labels”. The ticket for the event is limited and you can get yours here.
