CAF Awards 2022: Nominee List, Award Date, And Everything You Need To Know

List of CAF Awards 2022 nominees is out

The 2020 and 2021 CAF Awards were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the elite event will make a return this year and the date has been set for July 21, 2022. The Award will hold in Rabat, Morocco, but the actual venue is not yet confirmed.

CAF Awards recognize African soccer players playing both locally and internationally. The 2022 award will recognize African players who were exceptional in the previous calendar year running from September 2021 to June 2022. There are 11 award categories namely;

  • Player of the Year
  • Women’s Player of the Year
  • Interclubs Player of the Year
  • Youth Player of the Year
  • Men’s Coach of the Year
  • Women’s Coach of the Year
  • Men’s National Team of the Year
  • Women’s National Team of the Year
  • Best African Goal of the Year
  • FIFPro Africa’s Best 11
  • Club President of the Year

Interestingly, this year’s award will happen 2 days before the finals of the ongoing Africa Women Cup of Nations. The CAF Awards 2022 will also coincide with the second anniversary of the launch of the CAF Women’s Football Strategy.

Super Sports and several other television stations around the continent will air the ceremony. The game will also stream live on CAF online channels.

CAF Awards 2022 nominee list

On 30th June 2022, CAF released a full list of the nominees for the Men’s category. The nominees for the women’s category will be announced later. The list was made possible by the combined effort of Journalists, CAF Legends, and Technical Experts.

The winners of each of the categories will be decided by a voting panel comprising captains of member associations and clubs, head coaches, media professionals, and the CAF Technical Committee. As expected, the list for the Player of the Year award for men was dominated by players from the Senegalese team. This is closely followed by Egypt and Morocco with 4 nominations each.

The category of Interclub Player of the Year was dominated by players from Al Ahly club of Egypt with 5 nominations. Both the coach of Egypt’s national team and the coach of Al Ahly are up for the Coach of the Year award. See the full list of the male nominees here.
