Do you know Kenya’s internet is faster than Australia’s?
We as a globe have commendably chopped down on racial prejudice but there is still significant technological prejudice. Talk about Africa and the common European bias is that technology is at its basic infancy there. That post offices are still very busy in Africa, that we don’t communicate via phones, lest smartphones. And in the case where there are smartphones, the cellular network is slower than a pregnant snail. This is wrong! Do you know Kenya’s internet is faster than Australia’s? Even the internet in Sri Lanka internet is faster than that of Australia!
Yes, diving to the statistics board, findings from Dailymail (www.dailymail.co.uk), reveals that Kenya “despite” being in Africa, ranks 21st amongst 108 countries ranked among the world. The browsing speed in Kenya is as impressive at 15.0 Mbs!
Topping the list among the nations ranked is South Korea leading the internet pack at 26.1Mbs. Your lovely Australia was not doing much good coming at 51st. Kenya’s beat the internet speed in Australia comfortably. Among the 108 countries listed in the survey, The Philippines came out slowest with a browsing speed of 9.6mbps.
Kenya’s rasping internet speed can be credited to the functioning vehemence of four undersea fibre optic cables among which are the privately owned Seacom, Government-led The East Africa Marine System (Teams), Lower Indian Ocean Network (Lion2) in which Telkom Kenya’s parent firm Orange boasts of a stake.
So if you are among those folks planning to leave your smartphone behind and taking along more papers for letter writing when traveling to Africa (for fear of lack of internet), you can advise yourself again. Africa is not technologically miles away from the West.
