Nigerian Teen Girls Who Escaped Boko Haram Meets with President Trump and Ivanka
Success gets more inspiring when it comes after a touch of failure. Laughter can be louder when it comes after a frown. While it is the common resort to cry buckets of tears when beset with problems, a bigger personality would buckle up his mind and climb over the dreary situation into the light of hope. This is exactly the situation of the two Nigerian girls who escaped the dreaded terrorist group Boko Haram, overcame the experience by graduating from school and now meeting President Trump and Ivanka!
The two young Nigerian girls must have had a hell of an experience in their time in captivity. They would be quite vindicated if they sank in the misery of the situation. But here the brave girls are, picking up the pieces of their lives and rearranging such pieces into a more beautiful life. Meet Lydia Pogu and Joy Bishara!
The two young women had a memorable and inspiring encounter with President Trump and Ivanka Trump. With the duo reiterating their commitment to creating more global awareness for fellow kidnapped folks.
By means of a letter drafted to President Trump, the two girls recounted the horror of the harrowing kidnapping experience which took place in Chibok town Nigeria some three years ago. “Three years ago, we and many of our fellow students were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorists,” they began. “Our boarding school was burned to the ground. We were lucky. We escaped.
“But even after our escape, we lived in fear that the Boko Haram would return,” they continued in the letter. “We could not sleep in our own beds for fear that they would come back and find us. At night, we slept in the bush. Finally, we came to America, where we could finish our high-school education in safety.”
“We were honored to welcome Joy and Lydia, two incredible young women from Chibok, Nigeria, to the White House,” Ivanka replied in a statement. “They shared with me their remarkable journey in overcoming tremendous adversity, and I am in awe of their courage and heart. I look forward to watching them flourish,” the first daughter and presidential advisor continued in the statement.
Pogu and Bishara first arrived in the United States in August 2014 courtesy of the philanthropic escapades of a human-rights group in Virginia, the Jubilee Campaign. Following 2 years of in boarding school in Virginia, they moved over for their senior year at the Canyonville Christian Academy in Oregon.
They had their graduation last month and come fall, the two would proceed to Florida to the Southeastern University in Florida. Accompanying them for their visit to the White House was the president of the Canyonville school, Doug Wead.
There is the inspiring story of these two Nigerian girls overcoming the odds. It is a common adage that “never let your background put your back to the ground”, the commonality doesn’t in anyway reduce its truthfulness.
