The revered Oscars Academy is admitting another African. US-based Kenyan filmmaker Judy Kibinge is basking in the light of her meritorious achievements in Hollywood. To massage her ego more, she is receiving invitation from the well reputable Oscars Academy undisputed as the leading film institution globally.

 

A little peep at the person Judy Kibinge

Judy has been in the Hollywood arena for quite a while. Directing her debut film Dangerous Affair some fifteen years ago in 2002. The film was a worthy introduction into the global movie scenery winning the top prize at the Zanzibar Film Festival the next year. In addition seven years later, her movie Killer Necklace (2008) comes as another hit. This would consolidate her name among the African elites taking home the Director award at the 2009 Kalasha Awards.

Judy Kibinge is not resting on her oars, and has steadily been cooking up great movies. Some of which include; Something Necessary, Project Daddy. She extends her heroics farther into establishing DocuBox. This is a documentary film fund aiming at assisting African filmmakers with the material and financial logistics for production distribution of their movies.

Can anyone sneak into the Oscars Academy?

The Oscars Academy is well revered for its eminence. This is because not everyone gets invited to climb aboard the famed academy. Membership of the academy at the moment tallies 7,000. As a result of this invitation, Kibinge joins the academy in company of 773 members. These members were picked from about 57 countries in the world.

Members of the Oscars Academy have the enviable responsibility of directly contributing to decisions made on individual wins and movie celebrated at the Oscar awards.

Therefore, Kibinge joins her Kenyan compatriot Lupita Nyong’o among the very few Africans to have graced the Oscar spotlight. Lupita Nyong’o made it into the limelight for her eye-catching performances as a supporting character in the blockbuster film, 12 years a slave!
