This hit me. We will fly home for a funeral without a second thought, organize the whole diaspora chapter, raise five figures in a week. But suggest a development meeting and suddenly everyone’s calendar is full. I think part of it is that funerals and weddings have an end date and a clear ritual. Development doesn’t. It’s open ended, it requires someone to keep showing up for years, and nobody wants to be the one still chasing people for updates in year three. Maybe the answer is we need our own ritual for this. Something with the same emotional pull as a funeral, just pointed forward instead of backward.
