The I Wear African Campaign launches with great enthusiasm

April 22, 2009 by AVReporter · 2 Comments

anniversary-2009-iwadsc_0241All the theatre and drama of couture fashion was present at the African Vibes Magazine 3rd Anniversary I WEAR AFRICAN Campaign launch which took place over the weekend. The campaign, an initiative of Amabel Niba, the magazine’s Founder and Editorial Director generated lots of excitement as guests were encouraged to dress in Africa inspired fashions.

The event was a parade of glamorous evening wear as well as innovative couture and luxury wear from 8 Designers. The mood of the show ran the gamut from dramatic to sensual, whimsical to classic, traditional to eclectic. The wall to wall enthusiastic audience of socialites, fashion lovers and editors from different parts of the country and abroad flocked to the perennially elegant event April 18, 2009 to enjoy couture and a luxury fashion showcase by designers from Ghana, Cameroon, Sudan and DR Congo. Showcased labels were Bothdoll Fashions, Cote Minou, KiRette Couture, Knaf Couture, Modahnik and Studio D Maxsi. Guests received goodie bags with beauty items from Supporting Sponsor Milani Cosmetics and were served exotic hors d’oeuvres from Africa along with samples of juices from Silver Sponsor, Barrel Juice. Performances by emerging entertainers Les Belles D’Afrique and Stephane Afeni (S.A) also enchanted attendees.

“It is always a great feeling when we celebrate our growth and that feeling only gets better with the launching of this campaign. I was quite touched by the turnout and guests who came out showing off their beautiful African outfits. The launching was a great success, ” said Niba, who dressed for the occasion in a beautifully crafted cream-colored 2 piece outfit straight off the Runway by Afua Sam of Studio D Maxsi; later on changing into a pink strapless frock dress with special markings native to Cameroon by Kirette Couture.

The campaign is just one of the many initiatives the publication is engaged in to stay true to its goal of connecting the world to Africa.

“Getting to this milestone has been an extraordinary journey. We’ve traveled a tough and challenging road but with the continued support of our audience, advertisers, special event sponsors and partners, we have continued to grow; and for that we are truly grateful. We stay committed to play our part to share the beauty that comes from Africa through our different brands, events and initiatives. ” said Barnes Manga, President of African Vibes Communications.

It is no longer speculation: Seal and Heidi are expecting a baby!

April 21, 2009 by AVReporter · Leave a Comment

heidi_klum_and_seal_all_over_each_otherSeal announced last week that his Supermodel wife, Heidi Klum is expecting their 3rd child and her fourth from the stage of his Radio City Music Hall concert Thursday night in New York City. Klum has a daughter called Leni from a previous relationship who was asopted by Seal as his own. The pair, who married in 2005, are overjoyed at the prospect of the new arrival and always dreamed of a big family.

Klum, 35, herself has hinted that she might still want more kids. “So many people say, ‘I am so done.’ That hasn’t come out of my mouth, and it hasn’t come out of Seal’s mouth either,” she told Redbook magazine last July. “I feel like we still have one coming.”

The supermodel, who was spotted shopping for toys at FAO Schwarz in New York City Wednesday, told PEOPLE magazine her life was “kind of perfect” but insisted, “It’s not like I’m this glamour diva who hands everything over and I just sit on my throne at home,” she says. “When we’re home, we’re cooking and doing things with the kids, driving them to school. We do the things that everyone has to do.”

It’s good to be Idris

April 21, 2009 by AVReporter · Leave a Comment

idris-elba-i000x0451x600It’s a good time to be Idris Elba, former star of The Wire. The 36-year is currently playing the new Dunder-Mifflin exec on The Office, and will be seen in theaters on April 24 in the drama Obsessed, opposite Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter.

What was it like for him to work with Beyonce?

“I think this was a very important role for her, because it was the first time she wasn’t playing a singer. But when we first started taping, it was difficult for us to really connect as artists because she has such a huge machine behind her. So in the early going it felt divided … almost like it was her and her team on one side, and everyone else on the other. But once the cameras started rolling, she really opened up and those walls began to fall. As a result, I really saw her grow as an artist, and I think you’ll be able to see it as well when you watch the film.”

Now he’s closing in on a a role in the Warner Bros.-Dark Castle thriller Losers, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen). Elba is negotiating to play Roque, a black ops commando set up by the government. The project is based on a DC-Vertigo comic and will be directed by Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard).
